A story from Peter:

Bill Haber worked for the Baseball Encyclopedia and a couple of times asked me to do research for him.

The first was a man named Allen Conkwright, who pitched 5 games for the Detroit Tigers in 1920. Bill had traced Allen to the San Diego area and then  lost track. He asked me to either send him a copy of a death certificate or a way to contact him. This was pre-search engine, so it involved a little work, but I was able to give Bill a phone number for a nursing home where Allen was living.

The other was a pitcher for the Mets named Bob Miller. Bill had heard a rumor that he had been killed in a car accident in Rancho Bernardo. This was true and I sent Bill a copy of the death certificate. There was only a brief mention in the San Diego paper, but a big article in the Escondido paper, so I sent a copy of that too.
