Luke Stern

Luke Stern & Friends

A story from Peter:

My father never visited me when I was working in Germany, but I did send him a letter written in German.  I had mentioned doing it to Louise and she thought it would be fun.

My father needed someone to translate my letter for him.  But he replied in Yiddish, which I was able to read.

A story from PJ:

In the summer of 1978, I went to Salzburg to study art.  Although I knew no German because I had studied Spanish in school, Luke assured me that I would be fine because I knew Yiddish.  Sadly, he was mistaken.  Very little Yiddish was spoken in our home – only key phrases like “Oy vey iz mir” were used frequently. 😉
