Jim Lehrer
Jim
Lehrer founded James Lehrer Inc., a maker of ties and mufflers, in 1931.
He is
credited with launching the trend for novelty prints in ties so successfully,
that by 1947 novelty prints accounted for 85% of necktie sales.
Known
for both his generous philanthropies and modesty, Jim refused to accept
recognition for his charitable efforts.
He even failed to attend a dinner given in his honor by the Federation
of Jewish Philanthropies, opting instead for a phone call during the event.
