Susan Stern – 1937
A story from PJ:
Sue was a teacher.
When we were young, she taught remedial reading in Bed-Stuy. When I had a fever, instead of sending me to
school, she took me with her to class.
In her later years, she taught ESL (English as a Second Language.)
I once remarked that all her students must be learning to speak English with a New York accent.
She laughed.
