Bill Jaker
Stories from Bette & Peter:
Bette: Bill was interested in radio broadcasting from the
time that he was a kid. He worked at the
NYC Board of Education radio station (WNYC) while he was still in high school.
When he was at Adelphi, he worked at WGBB, one of the Long
Island stations, which was based in the basement of a Garden City hotel.
Peter: When Bill was a graduate student at the University of
North Carolina he covered a cross country meet.
He ran the course carrying a microphone and reel to reel tape recorder
that must have weighed at least five pounds, reporting on the race as he ran
along. Despite that, he finished ahead
of some of the runners.
