My mom, Gert Accardi used to live in East Harlem, and sometimes the Bronx.
In those days, to entice people to move into a building, the landlords would offer the first three months for free if you moved in. So my mom would live at one address, then move out at the end of the year and take her stuff back to the family home in Rockaway. The following year, she would go apartment hunting again looking for another “three months free” deal.
When we drove through the city together, she used to say: “I lived there… and I lived there, and also in the Bronx. And then on that street too.
