Ethel & Irv Jaker wedding - 1932
Ethel Selmonsky & Irv Jaker on their wedding day – December 9, 1932.
A story from Bette:
My parents married on December 9,
1932 at the Selmonsky home on East 3rd Street in Brooklyn.
Mom wore a blue velvet dress with
rhinestone buttons on the sleeves and a matching cloche hat. Dad wore a double-breasted suit, a mustache
and a smile.
They took a three-day honeymoon in
Manhattan. Staying at the Hotel New Yorker on 34th Street and taking
in some of the local color. They saw “Of
Thee I Sing” – which was the most popular Broadway show at the time. And they also enjoyed two short operas –
Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci.
Their marriage lasted for 49
years.
What a wonderful story and a remarkable studio portrait with its lighting and composition and facial expressions
