Doris, Louise & Itzik

Left to right: Doris Selmonsky Stern, Louise Selmonsky Mintzes & Itzik Mintzes

A story from Bette:

Uncle Itzik and his brother Leon came to the U.S. together as teens.

Itzik had a very thick accent his entire life. Leon did not. That’s because Itzik worked in the millenary trade with other Jews and they spoke Yiddish at work. Leon on the other hand was a painter and his co-workers were Latino so they communicated in English.
